Personal growth is often times only linked to professional, financial and social growth. No one told us to do it this way. But, for a very long time these were the only types of growth that we saw celebrated. Personal growth can be mental and physical as well, it can be identifying toxic people, toxic environments and toxic habits and then working consciously to remove its involvement with your life. Understanding yourself better and knowing your likes and dislikes can really benefit your professional, social and financial development (interesting isn't it?).
Take some time to know yourself, what triggers you? What motivates you? What are things you would like to change in yourself or even in your environment? The power of introspection should not be underestimated as it often times sheds light on your purpose and the fulfillment of what you THINK you want in life. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING, you want to achieve in life is attainable (ok, maybe not every single thing, but ALMOST everything) do not limit yourself to the shackles of fear and failure.
An investment into understanding your habits and cognitive behaviour is something that yields a lifetime ROI (return on investment). This week, lets talk about understanding SELF. I would recommend doing your MYERS BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR TEST as well as a strength’s finder test. I will attach free links to both or you can find 2 that you would prefer. If you would like, we can discuss some of your results and how to capitalize on this new knowledge you have. Its important to say that these tests are in no way a determinant of you, and you should not limit yourself to the stipulations of these indicators, the world is your oyster. We are all deserving of success, happiness, growth and development. The late great Napoleon Hill once said, " Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past".
Growth is constant, you are a constant being. Understanding yourself and consciously making an effort to understand the changes you endure can help you to find whatever it is that you are seeking from your professional journey and the changes that can happen within. Take for example, when I was growing up. I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian based on my love for animals, then I wanted to be a lawyer because I was always an excellent debater and Speaker. Whilst those things could have served me well, my true calling is people.
I enjoy watching people growth and transform them self. I enjoy working with people because I believe that Human Resources is often times misunderstood and only linked to people and productivity and whilst these are good KPI's (key performance indicators) there is so much more to the background of a person and what gets them to truly exhibit their full potential and grow to become an active part of any organization. Money and Praises are never enough to keep any employee happy and loyal.
In 2021 I think more businesses, regardless of their size, should spend more time understanding who they onboard to be a part of their organization to ensure that they are hiring the right people, giving them the right tools and facilitating personal/professional growth within the organization. Strategic Human Resources places a lot of emphasis on emphasis on Internal Alignment and organization sustainability and growth. Perhaps, we should start from the root of organizations, the people who make these things work. I would like for everyone who touches this article to spend sometimes to understand their own growth, whether you are a college student or head of a department. Regardless of your relationship with life right now.
Take a moment to reflect on your individuality, what you have to offer and how you want to offer it. Whether your offering is painting teacups or working on a production line of a major company, take a minute to look at your personal growth and how your organization (yourself or an actual company) can benefit from self actualization and understanding personal growth and development.
